Lamoille Canyon |

The "inspiration" for this trip was funny. A few years ago, on a coldish winter's day, we were sitting at my dining room table, having breakfast and watching Youtube. Tom was randomly playing videos about hiking in nature areas out west, and stumbled upon one similar to this Outdoor Nevada video. Actually going there became something of a mythic obsession. (Here's another video by our other Nevada inspiration, WonderHussy--I guarantee you'll enjoy her vlogs on Youtube). On Wednesday, June 12, we headed out of Elko. We could see the Ruby Mountains on the horizon, but as we got closer (it wasn't far), we began to see the details, including the entry to Lamoille Canyon. The road was narrow and winding, and steadily climbed uphill past green valleys, tumbling rivers, and mountains of rock. Along the way, there were multiple scenic overlooks, where you could get a grand sweeping view of camps and campgrounds, trail heads, and beautiful blue sky filled with clouds. The view below is looking down the road, back towards Elko in the distance. |

And at the end of the road into Lamoille was this: a small parking lot, bathrooms, and multiple trails leading into the snow-covered mountains on all sides. |
